Band Info:
Seattle-based groove virtuosos Flowmotion seamlessly
blend rock, funk and blues with African and Latin rhythms
to create a fresh, unique sound all their own. The group’s
live performances are renowned for their infectious, positive energy,
stellar musicianship – and packed dance
floors. Their recorded output garners heavy rotation with fans
and casual listeners alike.
Formed in 1999 on Washington State’s
San Juan Island, the group is a favorite of the improvisational
rock scene, routinely
drawing capacity college, festival and club audiences. Just don’t
call Flowmotion a jam band only…
The group’s sophomore studio effort, 2007’s Is
That Right, showcases the quintet’s fusion of styles
into a heady, funky brew while suggesting things to come -- and
demonstrating
no small crossover appeal -- with the radio-friendly single “Wild
Eyes.”
Flowmotion is fronted by singer-songwriter Josh Clauson,
who penned much of Is That Right, also pulling lead vocal
and guitar duties.
Backing Clauson is Sabu Miyata, bass; Scott Goodwin, drums and
backing vocals; Bob Rees, percussion and vibes; and R.L Heyer,
guitars.
A self-proclaimed “World Funk Blender,” the
band is a hard-working outfit, spending nearly 150 days on the
road, on
average per year. This work ethic has paid dividends, garnering
Flowmotion a growing corps of fans from Alaska to California and
points east, many trailing the band from show to show.
Since its
inception the group has also hosted the yearly Flowmotion Summer
Meltdown Festival, a groove-packed showcase of likeminded
bands, set against the pristine backdrop of Whitehorse Mountain
in Darrington, Washington. Fans and initiates alike have also
scored their Flowmotion fix at other annual events such as the High
Sierra Music Festival;
the Oregon Country
Fair and Bumbershoot,
Seattle’s venerable
end-of-summer arts and music bash.
On tour Flowmotion has made
the marquee at such venues as Portland, Oregon’s Crystal
Ballroom; Seattle’s Showbox
Theater;
and even California’s infamous Folsom
Prison. Other stops
include Boulder Colorado’s Fox
Theater, the Bear’s
Tooth Theatre in Anchorage, Alaska and San Francisco’s Boom
Boom Room.
Testimony to the group’s crossover appeal,
Flowmotion has appeared on stage with such luminaries as Widespread
Panic, G-Love & Special
Sauce, Steve Kimock Band,
The Wailers and the legendary Michael
Franti & Spearhead, to name
but a few.
Solid songwriting, formidable improvisational chops
and irresistible rhythms. Look for Flowmotion at a venue or on
a radio dial near
you.
Go with the flow!

| SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER -Tizzy
Asher
For the long hot days of summer, Flowmotion is your go-to party band ...
Energetic Jimi Hendrix guitar bravado, driving funk bass lines and Clauson's
gruff vocals help ground the songs within the rock genre, while the band's
tendency to break into unscheduled improv keeps the live shows fun and flamboyant.
SEATTLE TIMES -Paul de Barros
The Summer Meltdown Festival has expanded into a three-stage, three-day extravaganza
with national reach and a burlesque, come-as-you-wish Burning Man vibe.
TACOMA WEEKLY -John Larson
The band unifies crowds with its vocal melodies, harmonies and
stellar rhythm section. It moves seamlessly through original compositions
with a liberating mixture of world-funk, jam-rock and sweet ballads that
beg total abandonment of self.
SEATTLE TIMES -Sarah Arney
Flowmotion has become known around the Northwest and beyond as
the leader in Northwest world funk comprised of funk, jazz, rock and blues
inspired by Latin and African traditions.
"Sustainability, responsibility and community are the theme of this
year's festival and our greatest desire is to spread hope and new ideas
for a better tomorrow," Clauson said."
RELIX MAGAZINE - Alex Anderssen
Flowmotion has been quietly toiling away, perfecting its song
craft and establishing solid cred as first-class festival operators. Summer
Meltdown still has that elusive, undefined element, which has you feeling
like you've come home to a family reunion with thousands of friendly strangers
... with ample campsites shaded by old growth cedars, easy access from
points north and south and perfect warm days and cool nights.
RELIX MAGAZINE - Mick Skidmore
The five-piece Flowmotion delivers enticing grooves and rhythms guaranteed
to keep any audience in motion. The band's instrumental work sparkles with
originality and flows with precision and purpose.
WHAT'S UP MAGAZINE
Seizing the stage with the charisma of a band that has held the reigns
of the local jam scene for the past seven years, Flowmotion, the celebrated
organizers and headliners of Meltdown, played for hours, breaking it down
to the dirtiest funk and twangiest bluegrass while showcasing virtuoso
musicianship and stage presence.
The Independent 2005 "Producing novelty requires the mastery of existing
raw material and the dexterity to recombine that material
in a way that no one has previously conceived. Flowmotion
has both mastery and dexterity. They also have a lot of fun." Daily Evergreen
Flowmotion forces
your inner dancer to take the floor to groove
and crushes the part of your brain that whispers, "I
should only listen to the top 40."
Arbiter Online
these guys are no
hippie experiment gone wrong. They are a funk-rock
world beats blend gone completely right.
Daily
Evergreen
The album and the band defy categorization (with) songs that
showcase the band's potential to be a major force on the ever-popular
jam-band circuit.

This writer hates JamBands but thought our live show was "an
easygoing atmospheric impression of a really good time"

FlowMotion was nothing short of incredible, bringing the crowd
to a pitched frenzy; a frothing sea of sweaty bodies.
Spokane Press
Something happens in the air when Flowmotion play. Even people
like me who don't have on rhythmic bone in their body can't
resist moving to the music.
Spokesman
Review
Flowmotion puts it all together in a special sound.
The
Western Front
In a music industry currently mired in a mass-produced creative
void, bands of distinction seem to be few and far between.
